WSSTC Members’ Scottie “Bopper” Wins U.S. National And Best Bred-by-Exhibitor in Show

The Washington State Scottish Terrier Club is proud of its members and what they have been able to accomplish in the show, obedience and performance rings. We are proud to announced that GchB McVan’s Big Bopper at Beameups “Bopper” won the Scottish Terrier Club of America’s National Specialty as well as Best Bred-By-in-Show at the world’s largest terrier show, Montgomery Couny. Bopper as he is fondly called, was bred by club members Dr. Vandra Huber and Michael and co-owner Rebecca Cross. Held each year in October, the 2018 show drew approximately 140 breed entries under breeder-judge Bergit Coady   Kabel. The Bred-By-Exhibitor group was judged by terrier expert Karen Wilson.  This was the 3rd national specialty win for Bopper. He also has won national specialties under British Breeder-Judge Liz Bradley and Australian Terrier Expert Kerry Lee.  Huber and Krolewski are also proud of Bopper’s brother BIS GchB McVan’s Be Bop Boy at Chyscott who went 1st Select.

According to Huber, this year’s win was extra special because Bergit is someone who I and my coowners have admired for her dedication to the breed and her time commitment to breeders. As an interesting aside, Vandra first met her co-owners Rebecca Cross and her mother Dorene Cross in 1995 when they came down from Alaska to show a Scottie at the roving national.  Rebecca who was about 14 years of age at the time went Best of Winners. She stood between Maripi Woolridge who showed Huber’s Westminster winner Am. Can. Ch. Gaelforce Postscript “Peggy Sue” and the Best of Opposite Winner Ch. Caevnes Devils Due “Tony” who was piloted to the win by Kabel. Ironically, Bopper goes back to Peggy Sue and Tony.

Earlier this year, Bopper won an all breed Best in Show at the Benelux Show. The 2018 world show was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In Britain in March, he earned at Group 1 at the world’s largest all breed show, namely Crufts.

Bopper follows in the footsteps of his mother – Betsy BIS BISAm. Can. Ch. McVan’s Be Bop Baby -- who holds the record for the most breed specialty wins including several WSSTC wins and his aunt Knopa aka  BIS BISS Am. Eng. Russ. Intl. Ch. McVan’s To Russia with Love who went Best in Show at Crufts in 2015.
